Training...

After having a rather heated debate with a friend last night, about who was great and who wasn't, I have decided to post some pictures to explain. I am in no way knocking what these gents did, I just want to explain. While explaining to me that Jean Michon was the greatest animal trainer "ever" it was followed with "He was even better then Alfred Court" to which I responded "What the F*&% tricks did Court ever train?"

Now Alfred Court, for those that don't know, was a revolutionary in cage acts from several generations back. He mixed many species in each act, which for its time was a great accomplishment. The animals all came in got on "their place" in a pyramid, posed, then left the arena. This type of act is call a tableaux act. Amazing in its time, wouldn't impress anyone today. The animals didn't do anything just "posed".

When I pointed out this fact to my friend he "alibied" this with, all the animals were put together as adults. This is a weak patch, unless the person giving it still believes the "mortal jungle enemies" announcements. Which is nonsense, and luckily has for the most part died off. Here are some pics of the Court style acts.

Now continuing with Michon, I asked and what tricks did he train, that were as he called "signature tricks" these being tricks that had never been done. GGW had the two hind leg tigers together, Baumann had the 6 tiger roll overs, Marcans wheels, Burcks Courbette, ect. ect. The response was, 8 tiger lay down, obleque, sit up, in "Military" precision, and Tiger on motorcycle.

OK....
Not even close.
THIS

Is not this....

This...

And it surely isn't this...

Now...
If he did more then this,
Some one show me the pictures...

The eagle never wasted, quite as much time
As when he tried to learn to fly from the crow
Could have spent his time, on a mountain high
Instead he wasted it flying in circles down below

Casey,
I can promise you, without fear of contradiction that your "friend" never laid eyes on either Court or Michon acts. I suggest he is doing what's called "parroting." It's repeating something that someone else has told you, which gets misinterpreted after 50 years of retelling, embellishing, hanging paper, changing to suit, etc. It just sounds like he is trying in some feeble way to validate himself. I have know idea who he is, and I know he is not a friend of mine, as my friends are qualified enough not to pull that nonsense. If he ever wants to see any pictures of Michon's act here in America let me know I have a photo album full, plus a video of the same animals he is talking about in a different act. I was "closer" to the situation then anybody alive today, or at least more qualified as to what was done and how, then the other two who were around at the time. Tell him not to disrespect Michon in that way.
